Forecast Discussion
A quasi-stationary frontal boundary currently located right across the Spaceport is kicking off Atlantic showers this morning. These will linger until the boundary lifts north later today. Rather than a singular frontal passage, models now show this boundary returning southwards late Friday. However, deep moisture does not look to be present with only a small chance for showers, a pattern that continues into the primary launch opportunity Saturday afternoon. The main weather concerns will be cumulus clouds and precipitation associated with any nearby showers. Another cold front will move through on Monday with high pressure building across the eastern US behind it. With little momentum behind it, it’s unclear if the boundary will completely clear the Spaceport for the backup launch attempt Monday afternoon, however it is expected to come with minimal fanfare. While chances for showers remain low, if the boundary still lingers then the increased mid-level cloud cover will pose the main weather concern. By Tuesday drier weather is expected to arrive with only passing cumulus and high clouds, both of which pose minimal concern to the secondary backup window Tuesday afternoon at this time.
