Forecast Discussion
Forecast Discussion: Weather conditions are expected to be very mostly favorable for both the primary and back-up launch windows. The Atlantic ridge axis is currently situated south of the Spaceport, maintaining the low-level southwesterly flow over East Central Florida. Given this pattern, showers and thunderstorms that develop over the eastern half of the peninsula in the late afternoon and evening will move offshore and quickly dissipate during the overnight hours. However, some lingering thick clouds left over by the evening convection may be present at the beginning of the launch window but should gradually dissipate through the window. As a result, we have raised the POV slightly at the beginning of tonight’s launch window, but overall good weather is expected. For the backup launch window Wednesday morning, more Saharian Air will be present across the Florida Peninsula, keeping the previous evening’s convection limited. This will cause less lingering thick cloud overnight, leaving to an even lower POV than the day prior.
